I first performed Coming Out Blues at Women Performing, a wonderful women-only performance space which ran for 4 years in Adelaide in the mid-1990's. A friend of mine had heard that I was playing there and said she would only come and hear me if I performed something other than "angst-ridden ballads". A quick glance at my intended set list revealed a preponderance of the aforementioned ARB's. So, an angst-free song (or, at least, an angsty song with a cheery tune!) was hastily written. There were two delightful personal postscripts to this story. The first was that that an early version of Coming out Blues was chosen to feature on the Women performing Compilation CD "More Than A Pretty Face". The second was that the friend who so freely dispensed her excellent advice is now my partner! Andrew Bunney of dB magazine says "Coming Out Blues shows the sensitivity and wit of good writing, and Sue Galbraith's singing gives it an extra lift. The swinging, jazzy musical bed is supplied by mainstays Flick Rasheed on bass, Angus Barnacle on drums and Steve Bellew on guitar, here with Judith Lemka's superb alto sax." But don't take his word for it have a listen
